Tandis que les études  de faisabilité sont en cours  de finalisation à l’entrée du tunnel, les travaux d’excavation de la gallérie du tunnel ont débuté ce 21 avril 2022 à partir du portail de sortie du tunnel Mulembwe. Il s’agit d’une stratégie adoptée en vue d’accélérer le rythme de travail sur ce chantier. L’attaque sur les deux front permettra de mobiliser  deux équipes pour se croiser sous la montagne en joignant les deux segments de gallérie en une et une seule gallérie prouvant ainsi de l’exactitude des coordonnées suivies sans erreur.
